Content marketing is in its simplest terms the materials and media you put out for your brand. As the space of digital marketing and e-commerce is trending now more than ever, the need for content marketing is becoming increasingly high.

It helps keep your product or service at the top of people’s mind. Content helps your business do either of the following things: educate, attract, entertain your ideal or past customers, bring new customers, and increase sales. In other words, if you are not creating content, there’s a chance you can be behind in the scheme of things.

When done correctly, content marketing creates a relationship of trust with your audience, positioning you as the business a customer chooses over your competitors. Your content can be in the form of blog posts, articles, Instagram reels, TikToks, polls, videos or other visual content etc.

As promised, these 5 tips will help you when you’re attempting to plan out your monthly content calendar!

1. Knowing Who Your Ideal Clients Are

Before creating any content, it's important to know who you are creating your content for. Analysing this information will help you understand and choose better copywriting, designs, social media platforms as well as information that you present to your audience. Creating content for 16-25 year olds will differ a lot by making it for an older age group. Therefore, hone in on understanding your ideal purchasing client a little better, their ways of communicating, are they more interested in animated or interactive content such as GIFs or Polls? All of this will determine your engagement and effectiveness of your posts.

2. Knowing Your Value Proposition that makes you stand out from other brands?

I’m sure you know about this, but how can this improve your content strategy? Remember the reason for social media marketing is mainly to maintain your brand position and stand out from the sea of other companies. Be sure to show your audience why they should choose this brand you’re working with over others. This can be done via testimonials, reviews, influencer marketing, tiktoks, reels, behind the scenes etc.

3. What are some of the frequently asked questions, problems or challenges for your client?

This is like the main go to content idea for most businesses! But let’s make it interesting shall we? Take it up a notch by doing animated videos, walkthroughs, reels or tik tok resolving any challenges your customer may have. A great way to get more ideas for content is to create customer feedback surveys, have a conversation with sales, customer service representatives, or even managers to ask them what are some of the challenges customers face. Then, you can create content based on this in an exciting way, using the above mentioned.

4. Where are your clients located? Which social media platform would be best suited to them?

Don't underestimate the benefits of your customer analysis. Similar to the answer in number two, doing your customer analysis shifts the way in which you talk to your audience, the information you share with them, as well as the platforms. Ever had to create posts for 4 different platforms, and still not get any engagement? We’ve been there! Each social platform requires a bit of tweaking to get the right audience.

5. Align the above information to meet the company’s goal and objectives for the month.

Lastly, it’s time to gather all of the information above and sync it to the business objective for the month. If you’re focusing on sales, try planning your content along these goals so that your content is aligned with the goals as well!
